My 650 flashed green when svc was available, orange when it was not and steady red when charging. Interestingly for the first wk of so it was offline it flashed orange but lately the led is dark (sulking?). It lights now (steady) only when charging. It seems to know it's no longer my phone. Sad but OTOH, sound qual on iPhone is phenomenally better.
