TreoHi, all, and happy new year to you. I'm following with interest these comments on the pre. I had not really considered the merits of having my data in the cloud for a mobile device, but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes.
As it is, on my constellation of desktops in various locations, I have increasingly been using log me in, and actually doing all of my work on one machine, just accessing it remotely, rather than having data scatterred all over the place, which is kind of the same idea, except that I have control over the storage, and I use a vertically integrated app (dental practice management and records), and there is, so far, no google-dent! (Just kidding, would not put that data in the cloud, honest). I do use a gsm treo, having gone back to it after my brief foray into an ATT Tilt. The data was surely fast enough on the tilt to support cloud computing, and that data speed is really the ONLY thing that I miss after having gone back to the 680...otherwise, the retrograde swap has been all positive. I do travel abroad from time to time, and maintain foreign sim cards for the places to which I often travel. This, finally, brings me to my question: I will assume that there will be a GSM Pre. It makes no sense that there would not be, otherwise it is a USA only product. So, there will be a GSM pre, or some other model using the new OS in GSM, soon enough. Could anyone tell, from what we have seen so far, can you ONLY access your data live on line, or can you also synch with your cloud apps? I would not want to have to rely on OTA data access overseas, it costs a fortune. TIA, enjoying the lively discussion. Mike Hodish [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
