And heres why,

Computers only have an output of 500mAh.

The Touchstone is looking for 1000mAh.

The 4 port hub you bought more then likely follows the computer standard of
500mAh.

My work got me a Pre for a few weeks before I went back to my Touch Pro
(which by the way needs 1000mAh to charge properly as well.)

Cool thing about that, it has a cord with 2 usb dongles on the end and 1
mini usb for the phone. On my Touch Pro I have a program that shows me
current output (battery drain by the phone), charging current input, voltage
of the battery, and percentage of the battery left. It's a great tool for
testing chargers, both wall and car, and USB ports to see what the current
out put is on the devices. Several times when I have had it hooked to my
computer for Syncing, it will show 500-600mAh drain, while only charging at
475mAh. Apparently when its hooked to a computer, its processor is working
pretty hard.
This draws the necessary 500mAh X 2 = 1000mAh with out damaging the ports.

Ok with that said, there are some after market car chargers that put out
800-1000mAh of current at 5 V DC for the devices. I have one in my truck and
it worked just fine for the short time I had the Pre.

I also have a Motorola 1000mAh wall charger in my office that worked just
fine with the Pre, same with the stock Palm charger that came with my 800w.

Its not really looking for a specific brand, just the right current output
and voltage.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Treo] [Pre] charging anomaly

I just picked up a plug-in Lenmar charging pack with 4 USB ports to
take on a trip. Checking it out before the trip, I find some strange
things that seem related to Palm cords -- I have the one that came
with the Pre and a similar(shorter) one from the Palm car
charger. Either cord used with a Touchstone, plugged into my PC's
USB port won't charge., but plugged directly into the side USB port
on the Pre works as expected.
Either cord used with the Palm Wall wart works OK on Touchstone or
side port. But plugged into the (2 amp) Lenmar only works on the
side port, not the TS.
Strangely the Palm cords work with the TS using my Kindle charger. wazzup?
