Thanks Mike!  ALL operating systems are stupid - and that's  a good thing
for two reasons:

 

1.    It's how I make my living.

2.    If they were smart, think Terminator, The Matrix, The Forbin Project.
May they NEVER get too smart!!

 

But I digress (frequently).

 

I do have MyTether installed, and it's almost always turned off, but that's
the best lead I can think of - maybe once when it was on Windows picked it
up and just hasn't let go!

Multiple possibilites:
1) Windows is stupid - that's a given! :)
2) You have "My Tether" installed on your Pre with DHCP turned on?
3) Your wireless router/access point is handing out the same IP
address to multiple devices. I have seen this happen first-hand
with AT&T U-Verse wireless routers.
