After 2.5 hrs on the phone with Palm, and eventually having my problem
elevated to Level 3 Support, I was told that this is a known issue and that
it will be fixed with the next OS update. It affects only VZW devices, and
not Bell or Sprint.

They said the problem occurs with POP accounts (although I had it with an
IMAP account as well), where for no known reason, email attachments fail to
show up in the Pre's inbox.

What's really weird is that this happened to both my Pre and my son's Pre at
the same time, so was it really a device issue, or a VZW network issue?

Long story short... the interim fix is to delete the problematic email
account, REBOOT THE PHONE, and then re-create the account. And it took only
3 hours for them to finally tell me this.

Subject: [Treo] Pre email attachment problem

Is anyone else having this problem with email attachments? It started today
at around 9 AM Arizona time.

In short:

Using a VZW Palm Pre Plus,

- emails with attachments received on the Pre with a Gmail account are fine,
and the attachment is shown.

- the same emails received on the Pre at a non Gmail account are missing the
attachments.

I tested this on 5 different email accounts with 5 different domains. (2
local ISPs, my hosted domain, Hotmail, and Gmail) Only messages received at
Gmail show the attachment. All the others are missing the attachment.

And to repeat, this all worked fine prior to 9 AM today. I've received many
emails with many attachments over the past 2 - 3 weeks.

Also, note that the same "problem" email attachments show up correctly when
the mail is received in Outlook on a PC. So it seems that the Pre (today)
is showing attachments only if they come in to a Gmail account.

I've demonstrated this same behavior on 2 different Palm Pre Pluses (mine
and my son's).

Spent 2 hrs with Palm tech support, so far no resolution. Since the email
worked fine via Gmail, they were initially blaming my ISP, but now that I
came back with additional evidence that it's also not working with Hotmail
and 3 other domains/ISPs, they are re-researching the issue. I'm on hold as
we speak.
