This is exactly what I did 1 month ago, after using the 700p for 4 yrs.
First let me say that I absolutely LOVE the Pre Plus, even more than I did
the Treo. It's got some deficiencies, but they will probably be addressed
in future firmware updates. The Pre is faster, sleaker, and offers a much
more pleasing user experience.

The built-in Calendar, contacts, and memos are not searchable (except for
name and phone number in contacts). If you rely heavily on searching for
info on your Treo, you may miss this ability on the Pre.
Memos reside solely on the Pre and don't sync with anything (such as
Outlook). Additionally, they are not searchable. If you have a need for
accessing and editing your memos on a PC, you can use a third party memo app
(for example, Evernote or Pocket Mirror).

With the Treo, because the web browsing was so tedious and slow, I only used
the Internet access feature (web surfing) on rare occasions when I really
needed to find out something. But with the Pre, it truly serves as a
replacement for the desktop PC's browser. The screen is very readable and
with the ability to easily expand and contract the page with the flick of
your fingers, it makes it very pleasurable to use.

I am not an Exchange user, so I can't comment specifically on this, but I
can tell you that there is no more hotsyncing, at least not the way you're
used to with the Treo and other old palm devices. Many Pre users sync with
Google apps in the "cloud", mainly for calendar and contacts. The built-in
memos and notes apps reside only on the Pre.
I installed a 3rd party app called Chapura Pocket Mirror. It allows me to
sync via Wi-Fi to my home PC, and syncs to my Outlook calendar and contacts.
It also contains (far superior) replacements for the Pre's built-in Notes
and Tasks, which also sync with Outlook. I do not know if this will sync
with Exchange, but it probably does. Another great feature of Pocket
Mirror is that the notes and tasks are searchable.

I find syncing with Outlook via wi-fi (using Pocket Mirror) liberating. I
can sync changes from anywhere in my home at any time without having to run
to the computer room and connect the device to the PC via a cable. If
syncing with a cable is a requirement for you, there is another app that's
similar to Pocket Mirror which syncs via cable. I can't think of the name
at the moment.
There are several Exchange users on this forum. Perhaps one of them will
give you some tips regarding that.

email but that is not essential. And my company probably won't permit me to
connect it to Exchange. Today I synchronize my calendar to Exchange using
the hotsync and a cradle.
Are there other things I might find useful that would justify upgrading? My
current 700P is working fine but I saw a Pixi Plus and it was so much

If I do the upgrade it sounds as if I will need to find a way to synchronize
my calendar. My laptop is WindowsXP (we will be going to Windows7 when my
laptop is replaced July, 2011). Synchronizing my calendar to Exchange is
essential but, as I say, today I do this through the HotSync function and I
assume that would still be available.
So, thoughts? I have been willing to wait but am getting the itch.
