I went to bed about 2 a.m. (Pennsylvania time) and it wasn't here. Of
course, California still had an hour of Feb 25 left =)
Got up at 8. Finally got to look at the Pre about 8:45. There it
was. Download and install took about 25 minutes. I'm guessing it used
the WiFi, since that was connected. (My Pre auto connects to my home and
work WiFi nets.)
So, in the order I did things, some firt impressions.
Apps seem to load A LOT faster.
Video looks good on the Pre. When you tap the video button, a
message displays advising to "rotate before recording." I didn't,
deliberately. Tapped Record in portrait, then rotated to landscape. The
playback showed exactly that.
Turns out, the playback controls are landscape, so, for instance,
if you hold it in Portrait, the play button is at the upper left. In
landscape that would be the left end of the playback bar.
So the point is, it's intended that recording and playback will be
in landscape, but not mandatory.
You can edit (tap the easily identifiable editing icon) for length
by shortening from either or both ends of the video. Cool thing - when I
edited the 19-second vid to 3 seconds, it saved both on the Video Roll.
Amended "edit" to the filename to ID the edited version, meaning in an
alpha listing, the edited version will appear next to the original.
I plugged into my PC. Only two options: USB Drive and Charge Only.
USB button has a Circle-i that loads a help file that starts with
"If you use iTunes 9.0.1 or earlier, you can tap the link to learn how
to enable Media Sync on the Pre. If you previously used Media Sync but
upgraded to iTunes 9.0.2 or later, read on to learn other options for
copying media to the Pre.
There's a USB symbol in the lower right of the Pre's display, but not
warning that you can't use the phone while it's a USB drive.
Hint: When I unloaded the help I had no indication on the PC that
there was a drive attached.
On a whim, I tapped the USB icon. A button display saying I was in
charge only, tap if I wanted USB drive. I tapped. The PC immediately saw
the drive. Still no warning message about not using the phone while in
USB. So far, I've not tried making or taking a call.
I found the videos. They are mp4, stored in DCIM/100PALM, not to
be confused with DCIM/100MEDIA where the stills are stored.
OK. That's it for now. Got to go to work.
