When considering following someone, if his tweets are protected and there's not much in the bio to pique my interest, I'll usually abandon ship...time's to precious to worry about one person who may or may not be very interesting/useful/relevant. After all, if he follows me and then @replies me or retweets me, that's more of a signal that there may be reason to request access. Otherwise, I feel like it's cold-calling someone, which isn't something I like to do (Craig : sales :: snails : salt).
