"My mail reader"?   That would be the Pre's email app and Outlook 2007 and
my ISP's webmail interface.  

Are you saying that you don't see the &nbsp when you read my original post?

Also, why would that non-translation of html code only happen on the version
that went through Yahoo Groups, and not on any other versions?

It's html for a space. It just means your mail reader isn't correctly 
translating the html code.
