I use TakePhone for this. If I highlight a number, press dial, it captures the number and asks what I want to do with it. Dial is the primary option.
It also extends the search/lookup capabilities. For instance, I can search the first few letters of somebodies first or last name and their company and come up with the person. This is one of utilities/apps that I don't want to walk away from (hence sticking with the dead Palm OS for now), but still looking.
