For instance, even with the switch off, if you bring up the music app and play a song, it will play through the speaker (even when the sound is off). I think the youtube app works the same way. In the case of music, this makes some sense - after all, if you didn't want to hear it, why did you bring up the music app in the first place! :-) I agree that it's a bit disconcerting when the switch is off and sounds still come out, especially for those of us who used the treo, where the switch was truly a "kill all sounds" switch... I suppose one could argue that an app like Timepiece could be similar to the music app. I haven't looked at it, but if it has internal configuration for the alarms (sound vs. vibrate), then it could be legitimately exempted from honoring the switch.
