I think that's a Verizon ad, which also is good. The thing is that the Pre has so much to offer that it's hard to encapsulate it in such short ads. You really need something that's like a minute if not more, which isn't all that practical I guess - or it's just too pricey? But I think what could really help them is to be a bit more provocative. Not in the totally weird way they did with the initial spots for Sprint, but rather taking on Apple. Apple does some good ads where they go after MS, why not Palm fighting the Apple juggernaut by doing something similar. It would be derivative, of course, but it would get people's attention, and done well might actually make people think about their choice of phone. You get enough people who are fed up with Apple's shenanigans and they will see those ads and some may jump ship. True, most won't, but even 1% of the iPhone's marketshare could help Palm a lot, and who knows, with some good press, some new phones, it could just help a lot more than that. Here's what I see them pushing as the Pre having over Apple:
1) Choice of carriers - this will only be highlighted in independent Palm-produced ads, since obviously carriers aren't going to hit this, although maybe Sprint and Verizon could emphasize it in a different way - ie, don't be locked to AT&T. 2) Multitasking superiority 3) An open development environment that encourages freedom. Just need to talk about how anyone can develop and that Palm's app catalog is as open as the internet itself, vs. Apple's "state-sanctioned" App store that excludes anything that the Dear Leader might not like ;-) 4) Synergy - this is becoming less of an advantage as the others catch up, but I think Palm's version is still supposed to be superior to the rest, right? True, that 2 and 4 are already being emphasized by more recent ads, but Apple's ads that confront the issues in a more metaphorical way for 1 and 3 (or even the others) might be a nice response to Apple's using it for their underdog status visa viz the laptop/desktop market...
