HP believes it can accelerate the connected mobile device market. This market is growing at over 20% annually. They believe they can leverage webOS to present a platform for an integrated solution for their customers. They feel the App Catalog will provide a platform for delivering applications on the Cloud. The strengths of both companies: http://screensnapr.com/u/i/5y3d15.png Complimenting the IP portfolio and Palm’s team. “We plan to invest heavily in development” HP sells 2 PCs per second in the world…crazy. webOS is going worldwide folks. Questions Q: Why buy webOS instead of using Android A: They believe that investing in webOS will make it more compelling and allowing choice. They still planning on working with MS a lot too. Q: What is the timeline to evolve webOS to run on HP hardware. A: Transaction has to be finished before timelines. Q: Talk about the competitive landscape… A: Palm Pre/Pixi is in the consumer space. Tablets/Slate is a new market for consumers, healthcare, business. Q: Can you characterize HP at the carrier level…how do you help Palm’s issues with that. A: Today HP provides infrastructure for 8 of the 10 largest carriers which will be a good foundation for all products. Q: How do you plan on keeping Palm R&D going…will they be separate. A: Palm will be a “business unit“…Ruby is excited to be a part of it. Q: Apple is a content platform (as well as hardware). Do you intend to get into that? A: “Our focus is to create connected devices”…HP is not a content creator. HP is planning on investing heavily in marketing, R&D in devices…very very cool. Alrighty y’all…that wraps it up.
