I agree about there not being a group for android devices.

I started one for the EVO, and am on one for the Hero. Oddly enough the EVO
group has more traffic then the hero, a device which has been around longer.

I am sure given enough time and more users who want to go deeper into their
phone the groups will pick up.

Strangely enough, I have found a couple of websites that offer forums to be
pretty busy, but not email groups like this.

Perhaps that's just things to come.

Feel free to join the EVO list, even if you don't have one I still enjoy
general Android OS discussions.

Hi George,

I miss a couple of things about the Pre: small size, physical keys
(sometimes), ability to drag a calendar appointment. Um, um, um. Cards.
Um. Slightly better PIM apps in general. Ability to just set the Pre on
the Touchstone and have it switch to clock mode.

There will always be some things that linger. Heck, I still miss Nobex
Radio Companion from the the Blackberry - available no place else!

And the favorites app on the Treo, although MeContacts on Android is a
pretty good substitute - FINALLY - took awhile to find.

I came too late to the game to get Swype (AFAIK - Craig, how'd you get it?),
so don't have experience with anything but the on-screen keyboard, which is
fine. Not great, but fine.

A friend has the Droid Incredible, and it's pretty neat - like someone put
an EVO in the drier and shrunk it down. The Droid X, of course, is big like
the EVO. I haven't run up against any memory limits on the EVO that make me
pine for more internal memory, and I've installed a ton of things. 'Course,
the next version of Android will allow installing apps on the microSD card
(I have a 16gb one in there now; waiting for the price to drop on SanDisk
32gb ones).

I, too, and intrigued by the AMOLED screens and GPU of the Samsung devices,
but I'm not pining for anything, really, yet - after all, it's only been 1.5
months! Wait 'till I get to 3 months, and then I'll be ready for what's
next!! I wonder if Sprint will let me upgrade after 3 months . . . J

I must say that the vibrant and current nature of the Android Marketplace is
seductive. More than I thought it would be. These days, likely as not,
when someone comes out with a new cool app for the iPhone, they also come
out with it for Android. My local NBC affiliate, for example, released an
app for both at the same time. Surprisingly handy. Last I knew there were
over 100,000 apps and growing rapidly. Not the 225,000 apps of Apple, but
then again there aren't as many fart apps in the Marketplace as the App
Store, so things may be approaching equilibrium. Not sure. Also, those
numbers are terribly inflated, since about every 5th app is one that shows
pictures of scantily clad women - not really apps at all.

With the strength of the hardware, the relative faltering of Palm and
Microsoft in this space, and the recent stumble of Apple (bumpers? really?),
it'll be interesting to see what happens between Android and iOS as 2010
becomes 2011 and beyond.

OH, and I miss this group being relevant to my chosen device. As I missed
it when I used a Blackberry for a year or so between the Centro and Pre.
There just isn't anything like this for either of those platforms - at least
not that I've found.

Cheers,

Don

I hate to say it, but I don't miss my Pre at all. Oh, well, maybe every now
and then I pine for a physical keyboard, but the Pre's was never what I'd
call stellar...more often, when I miss a k/b, it's the one on my Treos. :-)
But Swype is really fast and it makes up for the lack of feedback more often
than not.

EVO vs Droid X...well, I've played with an X, and it's like Audi vs
BMW...pick either and you'll probably be happy. The EVO has 4G, a
front-facing camera, a better rear camera, is slightly smaller
(height-wise), and is on Sprint. The Droid X is slightly faster on
graphics-intensive stuff, has 8GB of internal memory (in addition to an
microSDHC slot), and is on Verizon. They both have giant screens and are
pretty much sold out everywhere.

You might also consider the Samsung Galaxy S...gorgeous display and very
fast proc + discrete GPU.

HTH.
