I just started a new job this week and a lot of the developers have Android devices. One guy just got an Evo and was showing off Flash and the voice recognition. It's getting harder to resist that kind of temptation. I do hope Palm gets WebOS 2.0 and their new devices out in the next couple of months. A year and a half ago these phones were cutting edge, but no new hardware for this long is really starting to get tiresome. I understand why this might be, but it doesn't make it any easier as far as the waiting goes. You also can't blame these app developers who ignore WebOS which has a tiny fraction of the phones that Android and iOS has on the market. Hopefully HP/Palm can push companies to develop stuff especially given that it's easy to port iOS stuff to PDK, maybe give them some added incentives, but at a certain point, they can't do this with every development company out there. They are going to have to get more people buying their devices, and the only way to do that at this point is to produce something that's compelling enough for people to risk ditching Android and iOS in favor of a mobile OS whose future is a lot more murky. I honestly don't know how they'll be able to accomplish that. Certainly they can produce something that's of the same quality perhaps even a bit better than the current competition, but I fear they really have to go well beyond it in order to convince people to risk the safety of those other platforms... It should be an interesting Fall!
