The solution regarding the SD card was apparently not the whole problem. It worked for some time, then went back to giving the same error.
Also, incomplete synchs have been a common problem, leading to duplication of some records in calendar and address book. I have found no solution. I think there is an iPhone in my future. As much as the 680 does all that I need of it, I am growing frustrated with the amount of time I have spent regarding this problem. Googling around about it has not shown any clear answer.
