Dear Friends,

The following is a true story. In 1843 Ragel de Beer (12 years old) gave
her life in order to save the life of her six year old brother. It is said
that in the winter months of 1843 Ragel and her parents moved from the
Orange Free State (now called Free State, South Africa) to the Transvaal
(now called Gauteng, South Africa). During one of their nightly stopovers,
the members of the group realized that a calf called Frikkie, much-
beloved by their children, was missing.

A search party was formed, in which Ragel and her six-year old brother
also took part. However, as night fell Ragel and her brother got separated
from the search party and became lost. As the night progressed it got very
cold and started snowing. Realizing that their chances of survival were
slim, Rachel found an anthill that was hollowed out by an animal, took off
her clothes, put them on her brother and commanded him to get into the
hollowed-out anthill. She then laid in front of the opening of the anthill
in order to keep out the cold.

The children were found the next morning. Rachel was dead, but her brother
was still alive.

In the Word (Bible) I read of another man who gave His life. Yes, you
guess it, it was indeed Jesus. Jesus too was stripped of His clothes and
faced the darkness of death so that we can be saved. In John 15:13 we
read: “The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your
life for them.”

If your sister would give up her life to save you, will you not remember
it and talk about it all the time? Let’s then remember Jesus and tell
everybody of what He has done for us.
