Did you know that crocodiles never outgrow the pool in which they live? No matter how much they eat as long as the pool they live in is small they will remain small. Their growth is in direct proportion to their physical environment. Sometimes we allow our physical and social environment to determine how big we dream or what we become in life. We give ourselves all sorts of excuses; l am from a poor family, l didn’t go to college, l am an African, l am a woman. We let these circumstances restrict our growth and self development. In whatever pool you find yourself, don’t let it limit your thinking of what you can be in life. Our pools can become mental prisons created by ourselves or our societies. There are rivers, dams and lakes for you to explore. That’s where the big crocodiles live. Expand your horizons; see beyond your current circumstances. R.26 You are not a chicken An amazing fact: ‘There more chickens than people in the world’. Although this is true, l believe there are more people who are chickens in the world now than there ever before. Fear is a healthy emotion in the natural arena, because without it we would fall into all kinds of danger and potentially harmful situations. A spirit of fear is an entirely different matter and is a matter of grave concern. Sometimes individuals, communities and even nations can be gripped by a spirit of fear. Communities can be gripped by fear if there are oppressive or corrupt leaders intimidating or controlling the people of the community. A nation can suffer under a spirit of fear when evil men rise to positions of power and use violence to intimidate the population. Today the media places more and more focus on stories of violence, wars, terrorism, climate change and global economic challenges than ever before in history causing an atmosphere for all of mankind to be more fearful. Psychologists are continually discovering new phobias that people suffer from, including can you believe it, agora phobia (fear of crowds) as well as our well worn claustrophobia (fear of being in an enclosed space). Are you finding yourself being more of a chicken? Who or what may be turning you and others into a chicken? R10.27 50 000 seeds As human beings we all have one thing in common. Whether rich or poor, black or white, young and old; we all have the gift of imagination, the gift to see our future before it exists. We are all born with the ability to dream. Scientists believe that the average person reflects on over 50, 000 thoughts each and every day. How many of those thoughts have you built into a dream and into your life. It is virtually impossible for you to control every thought you have in a day. However, the more we can focus our thoughts towards the vision we have been given by God in our imaginations the greater our chance of effecting them in our lives. Focusing our thoughts can help us do something as simple as changing an attitude, improving a relationship, or as profound as building a career or a business. Voltaire once said, “no problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.” Your thoughts are the seeds upon which great achievements grow and your problems are solved. They are the building blocks of your future. So if you have 50,000 seeds or bricks what are you growing or building? What are you thinking right now? R10.28 Percy L. Spencer – The Man with the itch to know The difference between success and failure sometimes hinges on the ability to see an opportunity in the midst of chaos. When a problem arises do you see options or will you already be mourning the situation? Do we just accept what has happened or do we go further to know why things are the way they are. Great minds know that when we ask the question why, we uncover a world of opportunities. It was during a radar-related research project around 1946 that Dr. Percy Spencer, a self-taught engineer noticed something very peculiar. He was walking by a new radar tube, when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. This intrigued Dr. Spencer, so he had an itch to know why this had happened and tried other experiments with other food items. Dr Spencer was on to something. When food was fed into a metal box which he fed microwave power, the temperature of the food rose rapidly. The researcher didn’t just cry that his chocolate had melted, he saw an opportunity to change the world, to change the way we cook forever. He probably didn’t have the complete idea of what a microwave would be like at that moment but he recognized an opportunity when it presented itself. A mistake, presented an opportunity, which gave the researcher an idea, which he turned into a vision that changed the way millions of people cook around the world and the basis of a multi-million dollar industry, the microwave oven Are you able to recognize an opportunity when it presents itself in your life? Do you have the compulsion to explore, relentless pursuit of ideas, dreams? What is your perception of the things that happen in your life, the things that surround you? Your awareness, interest in the things that are around you will help you see opportunities that you can take advantage of in your life. 10R29 Link up with me!
