Not only is the Gaffney warehouse fantastic, sometimes their prices are drastically better. I bought some Panasonic PIR sensors from them a while back for about 2/3 the Digikey price. So cost conscious folks should definitely check Newark. And they have historically been the go to source for Raspberry Pi. Thanks for the reminder, Kevin.

Actually, I was going to include a remark about Newark but got lazy. My problem with Newark is that a fair fraction of the time that octopart says they have stock when I go to their web site that stock turns out to be in the UK. You only have to be in a hurry once and click through on autopilot and then suffer the extra 5-7 days for this to be a hard learning experience. I mostly ignore them, but the larger reason is they didn't use bar codes my database understands (haven't checked more recently).

Hi TriEmbed,

I have used Newark Element 14 several times.  Their inventory is a little different than Digikey or Mouser.  They have a large warehouse in Gaffney, SC (I-85 about 30 miles S. of the NC/SC border).  If the part is in this warehouse (you can call to ask), it generally arrives in Raleigh the next day or the day after.  Overnight for the cost of ground...

Not a paid endorsement just personal experience.  :-)

Some vendors or shippers seem to be cutting down shipping costs. I needed something in a hurry but, it wasn't in a client's critical path, let alone authorized, so all on me. Then I noticed Mouser was one of the very few sources with stock and a lot closer than Verical (TX vs NV). And, low and behold, UPS second day air for eight bucks. So I'll have the parts Wed.

Yes, not too long ago USPS priority would almost always match that. My personal bias is the less stress I can put on our postal service the better. Their budget process is quite simply insane (in part due to the state of congress for some period  in 2006) and no single black and white issue seems to be involved from my point of view. And that's all I have to say about that.
