From your description, it may in fact be just a bad bearing that could be fixed 
in the motor. What can happen though is the bearing goes bad and the motor 
scrapes the windings and ruins those too. Whoever get's it, spin the motor and 
see if it is scraping or has alot of play. If not , you may get away with less 
than $20 of bearings. Maybe as low as $10
