This is really cool, but I wish for a version that doesn't further

That's fine, except when it's competing for airtime with countless other
2.4-GHz radio devices. Having SOCs communicate with each other
wirelessly seems to me a waste of spectrum when they could easily be
connected to each other with wires or traces on a PCB.
