With NFS mounted directories, make can get confused by the "future" 
timestamps when the clocks on the machines don't agree.  xntpd keeps the 
clocks synchronized with a time server, which is set in /etc/ntp.conf.  On 
SuSE, there's a START_XNTPD entry in /etc/rc.config for starting ntp.
