That notebook uses a C&T chipset number 68554. You will need to use XFree86 version 3.3.6. Version 4.x.x doesn't work correctly with the C&T chipsets. I would recommend reading www.xfree86.org docs. The TriLUG firewall laptop has a C&T and I had to learn this the hard way.
