assuming you have the space, it's probably faster, easier, and safer to back 
the data up to a workstation (actually two for safety's sake) rather than 
tape.  i've done several NT/Netware-->linux conversions and this has always 
been my method.  and even if you do use tape, you still need to back the data 
up somewhere else as a safeguard unless you really, really trust your tape 
drive and data format.
