During the initial installation of winders in the user directory after
installing win4lin as root, one sees the winders installation
application, indeed, running.  Isn't that point after the point where
the boot floppy image had been needed?

The target hardware doesn't have a floppy drive.

I had the following response from the win4lin news group:

One thing that would be worth trying is to 
compile a generic 2.4.20 kernel (we should have 2.4.21 patches sometime 
next week, but right now we are at 2.4.20) downloaded from 
ftp.kernel.org.  You will need to apply exactly 2 patches to the kernel 
in order to support Win4Lin, and you will find patches and instructions 
here:
