Hello TriLUGgers --

I would like to solicit your advice and comments about starting and managing a small-scale OSS project. The things that immediately spring to mind include:

Sorry if this request seems rather nebulous and ignorant, but I was hoping to get a thread going with some ideas about "What would be some better ways to get off the ground" and "What nasty things you would certainly want to avoid from the start." Regardless, I value the opinions of TriLUG members and think this could be a fun topic to discuss fer a while.

Hi David,

TriLUG has actually talked about hosting local open source
projects some. We have a machine in our rack right now that
is just waiting on a volunteer to step up and get GForge
(http://www.gforge.org/) working on it. O:-) We've also
mentioned a CVS and/or possibly a Subversion server. In
addition, we recently started hosting the mailing lists
for the Aurora Sparc Linux project. So, basically, if you
decide to go through with your project and need a place
to host it, you might consider asking here. :-)

Cheers,
Tanner

This would be a very good time to hang out with the Open Source
people, before they get formally reclassified as a national security
 threat. -- Bruce Sterling
