As others have already pointed out, I made a mistake in setting the
channel modes. My sincere apologizes; and thanks to Mike Johnson for
fixing this.
Actually, I wasn't intending to set the channel modes at all. Apparently
the /mode command command uses an obscure syntax; if you want to set the
modes of three people separately, you do something like this:
/mode +vvv nick1 nick2 nick3
If you just do this:
/mode +v nick1 nick2 nick3
Then for some reason the characters in "nick1" get interpreted as
additional mode letters, causing confusion.
