The Phillips Middle School Amateur Radio and Computing (PARC) group is working to get an HF radio on the air and accessible via WiFi link. The basic design is discussed here:

We are lacking any experience in the WiFi antenna and amp side of this. The part of the spectrum used IS within a band allocated to amateurs, so we amateurs allowed to use amplifiers (2.390-2.450GHz). All classes of amateur licencees are allowed 5W output power all mode emission (that's digital or voice) within this band. Those with General or Extra appear to be allowed up to at least 200W, that part of FCC rules above 900MHz aren't clear to me.
If anyone is interested in working with us, we'd be glad to have the input and advice. We will be meeting on Saturday 6Sept at 2pm at Phillips MS off Estes Drive in Chapel Hill. Tune your scanner (or ham radio if you have one) to 442.150 MHz to hear more about directions and goings on 15min before the meeting.
