I've been writing to it, and as a matter of fact, backed up some date to it before I started the install.

Now it says 'ntfs' .... all 80GB ...



If it's a Dell or some other maker they could have put a restore or diagnostics partition on there. They're usually small (< 100MB), but NTFS formatted.



Partition type got messed up in the partition table I'll wager. What's reporting that it's NTFS? fdisk? What does fdisk -l report on the drive?
