You have to plug the router into your cable modem. You can plug an access point into a switch. They definitely are not the same pieces of equipment.
Gotcha. I do have a wireless router plugged into the cable modem upstairs. But what do I need downstairs to convert the wireless to two ethernet ports? Access Point ... Router ... Adapter ... Bridge?
