If you're willing to replace your router with an older PC with 2 nics, check out http://ipcop.sourceforge.net.

IPCop includes Squid, and DansGuardian can be added very easily through the "AddOns" system. Everything is administered via a web-based interface (although the DansG administration sometimes opens up text files for you to directly edit.) It's a nice little setup. I used it for quite a while, but decided it made more sense for me to use a small router than a pc. It was a bit of work getting DansG to block the right stuff... Out of the box it was blocking sites like mail.yahoo.com... So plan on spending some time getting it the way you liike it.

For support there is a very high traffic list (100+ messages/day) that can be searched. It's not bad, but usually you have to wade through a lot of junk before you find what you're looking for.

The hardware you use can be quite old. I was using a 233MHz PII. 500MB to 1GB of HD should be plenty.

I'm looking for something that will monitor and perhaps block the web sites my kids go to. Any recommendations? I'm already doing some stuff at the router but it is just primarily keyword blocking.
