If now, is there another IDE thatworks just as well
I have to throw in a plug for Eclipse. Works fine on Linux, as well as Windows, Mac, and several other platforms.
IDEA runs fine on Linux. But there is a caveat - it is only a Java IDE; they only have editors for plain text, XML and JSPs, IIRC. Won't help much with PHP, Perl, etc.
That's one nice thing about Eclipse... as "java-centric" as it is, it's not limited to Java. It can be extended to support working with any language, and plugins already exist for many. There'd definitely a Perl environment for Eclipse, and I think there is PHP as well... in addition to the obvious stuff like Java, C, and C++.
There are also plugins for Eclipse for some of the other languages that are popular in the FOSS world, like Ruby, Python, etc., if that's important to you.

Thank God we have the 2nd Amendment to tell our elected representatives that enough is enough.
It's time to put "... from my cold, dead hands" back where it belongs.
