Does Kphone need a sip server to attach to?
Can it do point to point?
Kphone is simply a VoIP phone application that runs on Linux. It can
attach to other VoIP phones or other Kphone users using SIP (point to
point).
If you want it to be able to call folks on the public phone network then you will need a VoIP server or service that provides that connection - though looking at Kphone, it seems to only be at the stage where it can connect only directly to other SIP enabled phones.
