From a Firefox perspective, at least my Firefox perspective, they are on the right. I don't know if this is a function of the userid or browser profile (seems less likely), but I do know that a fair amount of subtle changes have come and gone in gmail; I've noticed mostly because I've been paying special attention to the interface. Truth be told, I rarely notice the ads unless I make a point to check them out for weirdness, e.g. a recent Red-CAP thread entitled "open source wrestling?".
