I'm guessing by "network side" you mean the wired network.  You might be
able to use Kismet (http://www.kismetwireless.net/) with a couple of wired
drones set up.  I know Kismet is viewed as a "war driver" tool, but the
drone feature would be perfect for this sort of thing.
