100Mbps isn't exactly a square wave, I believe it's 3 level signalling with
shaping to prevent high frequency components (of square waves).


That is right. 100 Meg over copper user ML3T - three levels using voltages of
0 volts, +5, and -5. 10 meg uses Manchester encoding running at 20Mhz in a
nice "return to zero" square wave.
