No, I'm not getting voice over IP, so the cable company (Comcast) said I
could just use "any cable modem available at your local computer
store".   So I assume this means they are fairly confident that their
system is compatible with anything that's on the market today.  Thanks
for the warning though, in case I do manage to find a used one.
