Oh, I'm sooooo confused now. First of all, I really don't care if can can boot from the large drives I figure that I can continue to use the existant 9MB SCSI boot drive, although I was figuring to start the large drives with a smallish partition just in case.
I hadn't run across the idea of the MOBO itself limiting the disk size, but I suppose that it might. This machine uses the 440BX chipset and dual Pentium IIs. I guess I'm just going to have to try, but I won't buy everything at once. I guess I'll have to follow an algorithm like this. 1. Drive from Wake Forest to Raleigh to buy 1 large HD. 2. See if it works. 3. If yes go to step 7 4. Drive from Wake Forest to Raleigh to buy PCI IDE controller 5. See if this works. 6. If no exit with failure and figure out what to do with my new hardware. 7. Drive back to Raleigh to buy second drive. Now, I guess I could I go ahead and buy a pci card in step one, and save one trip. Does anyone know whether or not the PCI IDE ATA133 Controller Card that Intrex sells works with Linux? One advantage of this is that I could each of the four IDE Drives on a separate channel. -- TriLUG mailing list : http://www.trilug.org/mailman/listinfo/trilug TriLUG Organizational FAQ : http://trilug.org/faq/ TriLUG Member Services FAQ : http://members.trilug.org/services_faq/ TriLUG PGP Keyring : http://trilug.org/~chrish/trilug.asc
