looking for the cheapest network conncection (DSL or cable modem) in the
Raleigh\Durham\Cary\Apex area. I probally will be looking to have my own IP. Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Cate

Intrex.net is a local provider of DSL service for various telco locations. In the interest of full disclosure, I am currently employed as the System Administrator for Intrex.net. So please do not consider me unbiased. :) Intrex has arranged a special offer to members of TriLUG, and if you are officially a member (which is free and easy), you have access to what I believe to be the best service for a Linux box, on the cheap. In a BellSouth phone area, you can get 256k x 128k connection, with a Static IP, and no inbound port restrictions, for $34.99 per month. Normally, the "residential" DSL services in the area will block incoming connections on ports 25 and 80, as well as some other arbitrary restrictions. In our opinion, it's your bandwidth, and you're welcome to use it in what ever way you like. :) (presuming of course that it does not violate any laws, or contribute to an overall detriment to the Internet - read: don't send spam) We also extend the same offer for our other services, 1.5M x 256k for $49.99 and 3M x 384k for $54.99.

If you have any questions, feel free to post to the list, or give me a call in the office on Monday morning.
