Now the problem I am having is with CUPS in Sarge. I have a printer mapped (network HPLJet4 hosted on a Windows XP host running Unix printing service).. lpd://the.host.ip/sharename... And everything seems to behave normally; no error messages crop up. But when I try to print something....nothing happens. Nothing at all! It's as if the machine gobbled up the print job and didn't even burp. For example:
$ lpr somehugeimage.ps and then immediately: $ lpq HPLaserJ is ready no entries
somehugeimage.ps is large enough that it should be spending some time in the local print queue. On a FC2 machine which has a working connection to the printer in question, behavior is as expected--the job goes into the local queue and a few minutes later is waiting for me at the printer.
The /etc/cups/printer.conf entries on both machines are identical. The only difference that I can see immediately is the Sarge machine uses GIMP-Print and the FC2 machine uses Foomatic. Could that be it?
Thanks as always for the input!
