Try this from command line:
  echo "hello" |mail -s "Test Message" [EMAIL PROTECTED]

See if it appears in your normal mail.  If so, you're done.

Most distro's setup your server/workstation to be able to drop off
normal mail. As long as DNS is available to the box, mail normally
works.
