[TriLUG] How to copy /boot and boot loader

I have a system booting from a CF card.  I want to move from the CF card to 
a USB device of almost the same size.  Both devices claim 128MB, but the 
USB comes up about two meg short of the CF card.  I was hoping to just do a 
"dd" between the devices, but the size difference gets in the way.

So what is the correct way to copy the boot loader (grub) and /boot stuff 
to a new device?
