Take a look at x11vnc.

The normal VNC package starts a "new" X11 session that
runs on a virtual display. The only way to see it is to connect
using a VNC client such as xvncviewer.

X11vnc works a little bit different. It attaches to an existing
X11 display. This is also how the Windows version of vncserver
works.
