Guys, Thanks for all the replies. I will check out some of the leads. Based on craigslist volume, it seems that a lot of areas (Boston, RTP, Tampa, etc) are not as active as NYC, either because they just aren't, or are depressed.
In NY, the tech bust is over. Data centers are filling up with customers again, new servers are being installed left and right, and so there is demand for people to admin these systems and even for people to manage those admins. I'm getting calls for high level management jobs here in the city, jobs which I've not seen in demand in the last 2-3 years. I'm a senior level admin with an MBA, so my interest is more on the management side, though I am technical and spend a lot of my time in data centers. I currently work as VP of systems for an internet company in NYC, but I'm busting my hump day in and day out, so I'm looking at some options. I got a call from a large Linux company in NC (hmm, who could that be) but I guess I wasn't what they were looking for. I did look at the real estate prices though, which are about half or less of the equivalent properties in suburban NY, and the taxes are 1/3 to 1/2 as well, so that brought me to the TriLUG. Another twist - I've also started my own online venture, so I'm debating the wisdom of giving up my lucrative day job, and trying to make it on my own. I'd probably want to hedge my bets and still have a part time or 2nd shift technical position, especially if that job had benefits, so I'd consider that as well. If anyone needs leads for jobs in the NY area or recruiters here, I know some of the best people in the business up here and can gladly refer you. Thanks.
