I'm looking into this. GAIM appears to be doing something wrong when
registering a jabber account. I'm investigating exactly what that is,
but for now, the best I can suggest is to try a different client.

I've been unable to register a new account; GAIM spits back a "401 not
authorized" response, and Adium just gives back a generic error message.
What am I supposed to do to re-register an account?
