Newbie gaffe on my part - I didn't realize Intrex was a LUG sponsor and that IS worth a few extra dollars AFAIC. Thanks for the suggestion of TigerDirect, but I have been underwhelmed by them for the most part mainly due to the "garage sale" atmosphere. Any others?
And don't forget to present your TriLUG card at Intrex for a 10% discount on your purchase!! With that, most prices become *cheaper* than Tiger Direct. Remember too that you can order parts from Intrex.Com and have them for pickup at the store (some parts anyway). Also, they have a great online configurator to custom build a PC to your specs -- and fully warranteed for a year. Tiger Direct is good for refurbished PCs and monitors though. I have recommended slightly out-of-date refurbished PCs with no OS from them for the severely budget-conscience -- and then load Linux on them! (*take that! Mikey-soft) Funny how the older slower refurb runs apps faster under Linux than the newest ones with Win-XP. Even under Xandros and Wine, some M$ apps run faster under slower-machine Linux-and- emulator than on faster-machine Win-XP!! I too have looked for a local parts merchant other than Intrex (Stay Online was too expensive). I also have looked for a local hobby electronics merchant (Capital Electronics is long gone), and one that caters to ham radio electronics as well. No luck... I thought about going into the business myself (used to have one, and if my garage inventory is any indication...), but I would need some help, both financially and physically. I need startup capital to buy fixtures and inventory. And I would need someone to toil with me to clean up a local venue for the store. Any takers? For prompt low-shipping costs on computer parts online, I have found Jameco Electronics (http://jameco.com/) to be a good source.
