I just installed Magpie RSS (http://magpierss.sourceforge.net) on my personal site (http://warrenmyers.com/feeds.php) and it works great.
It's completely self-contained, and with a couple lines of code, you can wrap the RSS handling so you can subscribe to multiple feeds.
