Jeff - StayOnline has "contracted" into a web-only storefront. They've closed their stores, but as I understand, the main warehouse location near Westinghouse Drive (off Capital at the Beltline) is open for pickups. You pretty much touched on the "holy trinity" of computer stores in the triangle: CompUSA (hi prices, poor parts selection), Intrex (nice prices, low stocking levels) and TigerDirect (returns, overstocks). Staples sometimes has really great sales on hard drives, CD or DVD drives and memory products. But their software prices are shockingly high. They recently had an incredible price on a Linksys wireless router and wireless card, but each store had only 15 units and they all went to to those waiting in line when the store opened. There are some other small stores in the area, but I rarely venture outside the mainstream.
