I'm getting started with 2.6 kernels. I've just noticed that there is no /dev/hdc for my cdrom, even though the cdrom is detected as hdc on bootup. Adding hdc to /dev by hand allows me to access the device, but this being 2.6, the hdc is not there on the next bootup.

How do I get udev to add hdc to /dev automatically on bootup?

Thanks Joe
