honesty is the best policy. i tell prospects and customers that i will do my best and am willing to cancel appointments for scheduled maintenance in order to assist with an emergency. no one can make guarantees that your child won't get sick or whatever. you can definitely say what you will do and do what you say, though.

personally, i haven't had letterhead paper in the nine years i've been in business. i someone requests it, conjure up a logo and put it in an open office text document. done.

good luck.

hth,

jim

What's a good way of stating in the bid what I can do? I don't want the customer to get alarmed that if he goes with a single person business, that the installation could be down for a long time. The customer has only ever talked to me and I don't have letterhead paper etc, so he should have figured out that I'm just a small local operation. I haven't told him that I have a full time job and I do projects like his to earn extra money.

Thanks Joe
